Young Foxes top Fair-Play League

Honington Foxes under-9s are celebrating this week after scooping a top award for fair play in the Ipswich & Suffolk Youth League.

The team, which was only formed at the start of last season, was ranked by opposing teams throughout the season as the best in all age categories (from under-8s up to under-18s) and across all divisions. They were unveiled as the league’s Fair-play winners, and 1st overall winners of the Macron RESPECT award at the league’s AGM on June 24th. As well as the trophy, the boys from the team received match balls, RESPECT armbands and other kit from sponsors, football apparel and equipment brand, Macron.

Dougie Buckley, Manager of the under-9s said: “We were delighted to hear that we’d won this award.  This was our first season playing together, so it’s doubly rewarding for Gary and myself as managers, the players’ parents who are so supportive and, most importantly, the boys, to be recognised in this way. We always try and make visitors welcome and encourage the boys in the team to play the game in the right way, as do all Honington Foxes teams.”

Alistair Phillips, Chairman of Honington Foxes, said: “The under-9s include a majority of players playing ‘up’ a year, making them one of the youngest teams in their league. We as a club are committed to the FA RESPECT campaign but our under-9s have set new standards and shown maturity beyond their years in a league which sets the bar very high when it comes to fair play.”

All Smiles at Honington Foxes Presentation Day

Honington Foxes annual Presentation held on May 9th at the RAF Honington base was once a again a big success, despite the best efforts of the British weather to dampen proceedings at times.

Hundreds of players, parents, relatives and friends descended on the RAF base’s playing fields to watch and/ or take part on lots of fun football games flanked by a fantastic barbecue and other stalls.

It was great to see so many new players turning up too with the younger age groups being particularly well supported, which bodes well for the long term future of the club.

The day culminated, as always with the presentation of the club’s annual players awards. The winners in the four age categories were as follows...
